BOLO: Conficker Payload Dropped

Be on the lookout, there are new Conficker developments. The “Between the Lines” security blog at ZDNet has an update on this worm. Conficker, assumed to be a name constructed with a German profane expletive, apparently has dropped its payload. CNET’s Elinor Mills also reports that the worm’s payload is hiding behind a rootkit which would obfuscate some basic detection methods.

Librarians wondering about this worm, which appears to leverage peer-to-peer communications to update itself, can view a round-up of reporting here.
