Two minutes

Here is the two minutes before the clip above to lend a little more context.

He's already corrected that statement

If you go to HBO.com and watch his answers to twitter questions Bill says that's not what he meant at all. He's a smart man, he knows the value of libraries and librarians.

Link?

I went to HBO.com did not see what you are talking about. Looked around for a couple minutes. Why not provide a link so we don't have to go on a treasure hunt to find what you are talking about?

I watched both the LISnews

I watched both the LISnews clip and the extra two minutes provided at http://youtu.be/BUjzrS6jwiw . It seems clear to me that Maher was dissing libraries. Maybe he tried to weasel out of it later with some "clarification," but in the clip above he clearly agreed with the myth that libraries aren't necessary in the Internet age.

Penn

Notice that Pann says that he was recently at the library. He is a very rich man and he takes his kids there. Even mentions that the library has great wi-fi.

That's odd considering that a

That's odd considering that a few months ago Penn was quoted as saying that libraries weren't essential and didn't need to be funded (unless I'm taking his words out of context - it was an LIS post here). But, anyway, if he was misquoted or misunderstood and actually supports libraries (which he must if he visits them) then I stand corrected.

Maher is an ass. In the past

Maher is an ass. In the past he has admitted that he's not even computer literate and barely spends time on the computer. So what does he care if libraries are "irrelevant" or not or that he thinks computers are taking their place. Maher spends most of his time hanging at the Playboy Club and smoking weed, he probably doesn't even know how to spell the word "library." Well here's one library that won't be purchasing his new book.

hello...sarcasm.

Maher is a comedian and a satirist. He is clearly being sarcastic and à la Stephen Colbert using the common line that "nobody needs libraries now, we have the Internet" to actually imply the OPPOSITE. It's called sarcasm.

Maher

The Maher is an ass comment was sarcasm. How did you miss that?
