While Stephen deals with the stress of moving, he asked that I fill in for him for a special episode of LISTen - The LISNews Podcast. As my alter-ego, The Faceless Historian, I'll take you on a journey through history back to the distant past and the origins of the DRM and copying controversies we deal with today.

Welcome once again to the pages and stages of history where number crazy mystics meet musicians and mingle with warrior women who offer something of value to early 20th century warfare before that gets taken apart by an Anglicanized American with a penchant for carnival rides.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time someone accused me of Irrational Behaviour.

We have a bit of a special episode for you this time around! Last month, I was chosen to speak at the third Ignite Phoenix event. To fit my talk into the time allowed, I had to pare down the essay to its barest essentials. So this time around, I'm presenting to you the original work, uncut.

So, if you haven't seen the video of my performance, you can find out why we're just now catching up with the Ancient Romans, at least on one small technological front. And if you have seen the video, I hope you enjoy the full presentation.

For all you library types with a passion for your profession, you could do a lot worse than promoting it in front of a group of people willing to hear you out. If you have an Ignite event in your area, you might want to submit a presentation. After all, it's only five minutes.

My sincere apologies for the tardiness on this episode. We had a family issue come up that necessitated traveling and the chaos that goes with it, so I'm just now getting it online.

This time around, The Faceless Historian ushers you down the aisle of history with some key stops in (THIS... IS...) Sparta(!). Then he provides a dash of poetry and weird books before introducing you to a daughter and a unicycling scientist. Where does it end? Well, I suppose you could use Google to find out.

If I'm counting things correctly, this is the tenth episode of Hyperlinked History! Who would've thought I'd squeeze ten episodes out of this thing? I wanted to throw out a quick thank you to all who've listened and I hope you're enjoying the series at least half as much as I enjoy making it. This time around, join me as we take a ride from today's promise of the future to the distant past, over 3,600 years ago. Sure it sounds strange now, but it's really all about Building a Following.

Time for another wild ride through history! This time we begin in Ancient China with a repeating crossbow, explore more northerly kingdoms, invent modern writing, deal with pirates, have a couple of wars, deal with a monarch, meet a legend, and then just maybe we'll give peace a chance.

See, I told you it'd be a heck of a ride. After all we've got to go Here, There, And Everywhere.

Hello, everyone and welcome to the first in a series of three special episodes of Hyperlinked History! For the next three episodes, we're going to do something a little different. I'm going to talk about seven people who influenced myself, my work, and my writing. More than that, we'll see how what they say can apply to libraries and library staff. Because these people, in a very real way, explained the world to me, I call this three part series "Explanations."

So join me as we'll meet two teachers, a couple of scientists, two historians (natch), and a nun. This week, we meet the teachers.

Join me as I talk about two scientists who changed my views of the world, and the views of millions of other people too. Beyond that, I'll also talk about how what they said, and how they said it, applies to librarians and our profession.
